Motivational Interviewing Introduction Level Course

Participants will acquire a solid base of M.I. Theory, explore M.I. spirit, investigate opening strategies, intervention traps, negotiate resistance, develop and integrate skills and techniques to progress competency. This workshop will benefit professionals working with people where behaviour change would be favorable.

MI Refresher / Skills Development Training

This training is open to people who have completed the Introduction Course. The training is designed as a step up to allow participants develop their practical application of Motivational Interviewing. Participants will improve skills, confidence and techniques to progress competency through the use of experiential exercises, reinforcing, feedback, guiding and coaching.

Intermediate Course Motivational Interviewing Training

This course is open to people who have a sufficient degree of theoretical knowledge and a practical experience of applying M.I. In the Intermediate course participants will expand on theoretical principals, deepen understanding, increase technique range and develop skill base to progress competency.

Motivational Interviewing Advanced Level Training

This training is open to people who have completed both Introduction and Intermediate training and is focused on advancing fidelity through the exploration of reviewed and coded MI interventions. Practice will be analysed using the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) coding tool. This is not a coding course; participants will utilise the MITI coding tool to learn and assess their own practice and that of fellow participants. Through the MITI lens, you will learn ‘what how to listen for the global elements used to code MI, alongside the practitioner behaviour counts.

You’ll learn what the MI-adherent and MI-non-adherent behaviours are (what we are striving toward, and what we want to reduce). Course also requires four written assignments. Participants must have organisational permission to record service user interventions for the purpose of advancing practice fidelity and understanding.
